Simon Mills is an electronic music producer and DJ who rose to musical prominence in the 00’s as one half of wonky chillout duo Bent. He also records as Napoleon and has released numerous E.P's including the Moogie Wonderland E.P. release on Secret Life last year.

 

His solo work continues his trademark quirky, slightly vintage, nostalgic, warm style, drawing heavily on his extensive record collection and an array of analogue synthesizers but with an eye on the dancefloor. This is the first of 2 E.P.s that will be followed up with a full length album in the Autumn

 

The lead track Copacabasa kicks things off with it's pulsing synth bass, twisting top lines, shuffling beats combined with swirling pads. Next up Hot Silk is a slice of layered Italo inspired disco with hypnotic melodies and chugging beats. Blockade Runner takes things a touch darker with it's spacey bassline, wonkey synth lines and chords and then finally Dollybird is a perfect slice of balearica that has more than just a nod to Simon's output in Bent.
